DNC 2011/12 Final Results

Attached are the final results for the DNC 2011/12 season.

Many thanks to all the planners for a great set of courses over the series, to the planners of the training events (back in early Nov 2011), to Richard Oxlade for coordinating the Gramp end of things, to Rachel for the DNC blog, to Alastair and Esther for obtaining the Maroc area permissions, to Ewan for being very patient every Wednesday while his mum and dad disappear into the forest for a long time, to the Derbar for coping with 40 of us descending en-masse! and finally to all of you for turning out come rain (er, not much), snow (almost none)…. – well for turning out to the events in such numbers and making the DNC continue to be Britain’s Premier Night Orienteering Competition!

484 runs, 92 individuals – both records

Best course – Birsemore Hill – Drew Tivendale (bottle of wine and choc egg claimed by Andy…)
Toughest of the tough – Shooting Greens – Chris Low (2nd year in a row for Shooting Greens!)
Best/worst mistake – relocating on Birse Church on Birsemore Hill event (nearly 2 miles away from the forest….)
Congratulations to Chris Smithard, Alastair Marshall and Ian Hamilton for making it to all 12 events in the series.

See you all next November in a darkened forest somewhere in Deeside – actually see you all on Saturday evening in Glen Dye where we can put all the training into practice and aim for the Scottish Night Championships.

Apologies to Jennifer Ricketts and Duncan Grassie whose brikkes appear to have malfunctioned. They didn’t clear properly and then didn’t record all controls – so the times shown are nonsense.

I found a thin black Helly Hansen hat in the car park at the end – any claim for it? I will try to remember to bring to Scolty and the curry next week.

TRAINING: lowkey, probably no timing, just a chance to learn/practise bearings and other night tactics

FROM 23^rd NOV ONWARDS: Timed courses, both TD5 Green Standard so if you can’t yet do a Green alone you’ll need to ask an experienced night O officianado to shadow you.

Starts 6-7pm (Dunnottar Training night will start about 6.30 )

Courses close 7:30-8pm depending on weather/area/organiser.

Seniors £4, Juniors/Students £2.50.

Grid reference for parking: NO 584 972 . This is just over a mile West (towards Ballogie) along the B993 from Potarch Hotel.

Courses: Long (5.4km) and Medium (3.3km)
Registration: from 5:45pm Courses close: 8:30pm
Costs: Seniors £4.00/Juniors & students £2.50

Parking is very limited at the above coordinate, so please car share if possible. There is also another layby about 250m to the East. See you there on Wednesday evening. Cheers, Andrew McMurtrie

Was sorely tempted to stop and hide inside the sculpture/hut/temple thingy towards the end but decided against as rumours of orienteers flipping out over a ‘ghost’ or, worse still, suffering a heart attack wouldn’t be good publicity for the DNC!
