Results, splits and RG
New territory for the DNC so if you missed it best get doing your homework on RG for next time.
Into December now and nights definitely getting wilder and wetter if not colder so don’t forget to wrap up if necessary so Planners don’t have to worry too much about you all.
Next up is Balnagowan brought to you by Matthew Gooch.
This week the courses have been planned in the back (northern & western) section of Balnagowan, a lovey area and nice under foot. As a result there is limited car parking space and it would be appreciated if people could car share as much a possible along with parking tightly on the night.
Take the Tarland road north out of Aboyne for 1.5km, then turn left on to a track heading west (will be marked), just before a farm. Follow this track for 1km and parking will be from there on the edge of the track and in two turning bays 150m apart (i will be in the second, the further one). See map at bottom for turn off location.
Course lengths & climbs:
Long – 5km, 115m
Medium – 3.3km, 95m
Starts will be 5:30pm – 7pm
Courses closes at 8pm

Pundit Drew comments: Sam Gomersall maintains his lead on Medium despite missing this weeks entertainment on a predominantly downhill but still ferociously difficult Pannanich course. Consistent David Esson moves up to second. Thanks to planner Jon Musgrave.
An interesting challenge including a test of distance judgement while contouring round steep and rough terrain which required complete concentration all the way. Very tricky.
Drew asserts his lead on Long. Reminiscent of Leicester City’s run in the Premier League, how long can the fairy-tale continue? Admittedly, young Matthew Gooch and Alistair Chapman are looking dangerous.
Plenty other dark horses in both fields. Best of 9 to count. Still early days.
(Unashamed plug for the) GRAMP event this Sunday 2nd Dec if you’re not going to MAROC Training but fancy a bit of exercise/competition…
Location: Foggieton with parking at Cults Primary School, NJ883032
Long score, 45mins (over 16s only)
Short score, 30mins (included recommended yellow course if preferred)
Starts: 11am – 12noon
Seniors £4, Juniors £2
Cake and hot drinks stall in aid of the Scottish World Schools Team.
Looking at RG it looks like fun heltery-skeltery kind of courses predominantly running downhill which was very kind of Jon – obviously doesn’t want the Toughest of the Tough Trophy for DNC 18/19.

Comments from Scoremeister Drew: Big news so far is….
Young Man Tivendale takes a commanding lead on the long course which he hopes to maintain until the end of the season. Old Man Tivendale looses the plot on medium on his first start of the season. Sam Gomersall maintains his strong start on medium. Can anyone catch him?

Forgot to spread the word tonight that entries are now open on Fabian 4 for the British Night Champs 2019 at Muir of Dinnet 23rd Feb, plus an urban Sprint at Cove to warm your legs up in anticipation and a SOL at Birsemore the day after to warm down (?? aye, right!) to make a real weekend of it.
Spread the word and get entering now.

Parking is in the usual car park up the track from the A93.
This is where the real TD5 stuff kicks in so make sure you have plenty of time and a spare torch battery as it’s going to be a shock to the system mentally and physically after the super fast fairways last week.
(Pssst! Long course folk! You may have the chance to compete against a couple of Elites taking time off from mapping Cove if they have enough energy left.)
Points following first two events (thanks to Drew for doing the number crunching again)
